Margareth Collantes has accepted the Head Coaching duties for the Trinidad State Volleyball program, replacing Karli Bustos, who resigned in January to take the head job at Eastern New Mexico University. Collantes, originally from Peru, returns to TSC where she started her college playing career in 2018.
Coach Collantes played outside hitter at TSC for two years under coach Melissa Hardman before heading to Florida National University where she wrapped up her playing career with the Conquistadors. She then started her coaching career at Hasting College, under Head Coach Alex Allard, for the past two seasons while she earned her master's degree. Collantes has also coached for the Nebraska Volleyball Academy in Nebraska and the Regatas Volleyball Club in Peru.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to the place where my career first began", commented Collantes. "It is truly an honor to lead this outstanding program and work with such dedicated and competitive athletes. This opportunity is a privilege, and I am eager to begin working toward the development and success of our program. My goal is to position our program among the top teams in the NJCAA, striving for excellence in every aspect. I look forward to the journey ahead and the accomplishments we will achieve together."
Collantes will take over a Trojan program that had one of its best seasons in program history in 2024, winning 23 games with almost a .700 winning percentage. TSC was also nationally ranked early in the season.
"We are very excited to welcome Maggie back to Trinidad State", commented Athletic Director Mike Salbato. "She has an energy that is contagious and a drive to constantly learn. We know from her time here that she was a tremendous student and athlete. She will do a great job keeping this volleyball program moving on a forward trajectory. I look forward to watching her on the sideline this fall."
Recruiting for the fall season is underway. Contact Coach Collantes at 305-240-9742 or at Margareth.Collantes@trinidadstate.edu for more information.
