
CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Trinidad State College women's volleyball team wrapped up its historic season at the Region IX Volleyball Championships in losses to Western Wyoming and Northeastern on Wednesday and Thursday at the Blue FCU Recreation & Athletic Center in Cheyenne, Wyo.
GAME 1: Western Wyoming 3, Trinidad State 1
After dropping the first set to the Mustangs 19-25, the Trojans rallied back in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. The Trojans dropped the next to sets to move to the bottom bracket of the district tournament.
Middle blockers Ellie Ames (So., Delta, Colo.) and Amya Speller (So., Monument, Colo.) paced the Trojans as Ames tallied 14 kills and four blocks while Speller added 13 kills off a .229 hitting percentage and three blocks.
Deniz Yıleri (So., Adana, Turkey) and Jaedyn Fuqua (Fr., Albuquerque, N.M.) each posted double-doubles as Yıleri added 22 digs and 10 kills and Fuqua tallied11 kills and 15 digs for the Trojans.
Jordan Garcia (So., Albuquerque, N.M.) played consistent throughout the tournament for the Trojans finished with 24 digs and dished out seven assists.
GAME 2: Northeastern 3, Trinidad State 1
TSC dropped the first two sets of the match, however, did not go down swinging. Yıleri served 10 straight points to open up the third set and give the Trojans a commanding 10-0 lead. TSC held that lead to a 25-15 win before falling in the final set, 25-14.
Fuqua led TSC with18 kills off a .143 hitting percentage while Speller added seven kills off a .125 clip and four blocks.
Garcia tallied 17 digs and two assists while freshman setter Mia Espinoza (Fr., El Paso, Texas) had a double-double as she dished out 20 assists and added 12 digs. Deniz finished with five serving aces on the match.
The Trojans finish with its highest winning percentage in program history after a 23-10 (.696) overall record and 8-2 record inside Scott Gym.
The Trojans finished third in Region 9-South play behind No. 4 NJC and No. 16 Western Nebraska with a 6-4 record which included 2 wins against Lamar, McCook, and Otero.
