TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Trinidad State College volleyball squad picked up its first Region 9 win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Otero College on Wednesday evening inside Scott Gym.
The Trojans came out cold against the Rattlers, dropping the first set 22-25. TSC bounced back and picked up the energy at the service line and net by taking the second set 25-17.
The Rattlers kept a steady lead throughout the third set before the Trojans finally were able to tie the set at 20-20. The Trojans used a kill from Amya Speller (So., Monument, Colo.) and a Rattler hitting error to take the set a commanding 2-1 lead over the Rattlers.
Again, the Rattlers were able to jump out to an early 13-8 lead before the Trojans picked up the energy. Three straight points cut the deficit for TSC before taking the lead at 18-17. Deniz Yıleri (So., Adana, Turkey) finished off the win for the Trojans with the final kill in the match to take a 25-22 set win and 3-1 victory over Otero.
Jaedyn Fuqua (Fr., Albuquerque, N.M.) led the way for the Trojans posting a 17 kill; 11 dig double-double while sophomore Yıleri added her own double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. Jordan Garcia (So., Albuquerque, N.M.) finished with 15 digs and 2 serving aces on the night.
