Trinidad State Volleyball Improves to 17-4; Goes 3-1 at Wyo-Braska Invite

TORRINGTON, Wyo. – The No.17 Trinidad State College volleyball program snapped its 12-game winning streak over the weekend where the team finished 3-1 at the Wyo-Braska Invite hosted by Eastern Wyoming.  

GAME 1: #17 Trinidad State 3, Gillette 0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-19)

The Trojans jumped out on the Pronghorns early in the first set and never looked back, winning 3-0. TSC dominated the net, holding Gillette to a .103 hitting percentage while posting a .266 of its own and also tallied 7 blocks compared to the 4 for the Pronghorns. Trinidad State, who leads the NJCAA in serving aces (206 before the weekend), served 14 on the match which included 6 from freshman outside hitter Jaedyn Fuqua (Fr., Albuquerque, N.M.)

Fuqua led the way for the Trojans with 16 kills off a .438 hitting percentage, 6 serving aces, and 11 digs.

GAME 2: #17 Trinidad State 3, Colorado Northwest 0 (25-18, 25-8, 25-19)

The Trojans extended its win streak to 12 matches in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-8, 25-19) dominating victory over Colorado Northwest. The Trojans received 10 kills, 3 blocks, and 5 serving aces from Ellie Ames (So., Delta, Colo.) in the match.

GAME 3: Eastern Wyoming 3, #17 Trinidad State 2 (15-25, 10-25, 25-21, 25-14, 10-15)

The match of the weekend came in the rematch against Eastern Wyoming. The Trojans topped the Lancers in reverse-sweep fashion back on September 7th inside Scott Gym as the teams battled from the opening serve.

Again, the Lancers took the first 2 sets from the Trojans before the Trojans answered with the next 2 sets of its own. And yet again, the Trojans and Lancers were headed to a fifth and deciding set.

The Lancers jumped out early to a 6-2 lead before the Trojans rallied to tie the set at 7-7. EWC called a timeout before scoring 5 unanswered points to take the fifth set over the Trojans.

The Trojans had two players post 10 kills a piece in Fuqua and Amya Speller (So., Monument, Colo.) while Speller also added 4 blocks. Jordan Garcia (So., Albuquerque, N.M.) added 15 digs for the Trojans

The loss to the Lancers snapped a 12-game winning streak for Trinidad State.

GAME 4: #17 Trinidad State 3, Central Wyoming 2 (13-25, 25-22, 25-18, 20-25, 15-8)

Trinidad State had no time to waste and rebounded with another thrilling 3-2 win over Central Wyoming. CWC took the first set from the Trojans before Trinidad State answered by taking the next two sets 25-22 and 25-18. The Rustlers sent the match to the fifth set for the second of the day for the Trojans. TSC walked away with a commanding 15-8 set win and 3-2 victory.

Fuqua led the way for the Trojans posting 22 kills, 11 digs, and 5 serving aces while teammate Deniz Yıleri (So., Adana, Turkey) added 15 kills and 13 digs. Speller dominated the net once again with 13 kills and 4 blocks (2 solo) and Garcia posted a season-high 26 digs in the back row with 4 serving aces for the Trojans.

Ana Vitoria Vian (Fr., Primavera do Leste, Brazil) and Mia Espinoza (Fr., El Paso, Texas) each tallied 27 assists for TSC.

The RV Trojans move to 17-4 on the season as the squad begins region 9 action this coming weekend with road matches against Western Nebraska on Friday and No. 4 NJC on Saturday.
