
TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Trinidad State College women's volleyball team opens the 2024 campaign on August 23rd and 24th as the team will play four matches over a two-day span at the Scooters Coffee Invitational hosted by Garden City Community College.
The Trojans open the 2024 campaign with a 9:30 a.m. MT match against Barton Community College followed by Labette Community College at 3:30 p.m. MT that same day. TSC will close out the weekend the following day with matches against Vernon Community College at 7 a.m. MT and Navarro Community College at 2:30 p.m. MT. Barton finished last season with a 25-6 overall record and an appearance in the NJCAA National Championships while Navarro finished with a 34-4 record and a third place finish in the NJCAA National Championships.
Last season, the Trojans finished with one of its best seasons since 2001 after a heartbreaking 1-3 loss to Central Wyoming in the semi-finals of the Region 9 Championships. The Trojans finished with a 17-19 overall record (5-5, Region 9) and fifth place in the region, which included only three loses inside Scott Gym.
"The first four matches of the season are a big test for our team but I am excited to see where the season takes us," stated Head Volleyball Coach Karli Bustos. " We have some key returners in our sophomore class who are ready to lead our team. It's a mix of experience and inexperience and we are excited to get to work."
Trinidad State brings back five returners (4 starters) from last year's squad in Jordan Garcia (Albuquerque, N.M.), Amya Speller (Monument, Colo.), Ellie Ames (Delta, Colo.), Deniz Yileri (Adana, Turkey), and Myrah Abdallah-Boehm (Bayfield, Colo.). Garcia, who played in every match for the Trojans at libero, finished 561 digs (4.42 per set) and 29 serving aces while middle blocker Speller registered 248 kills (2.03 per set). Both Garcia and Speller were named to the Region 9 All-Region 2nd-Team.
Bustos, who enters her 5th season at the helm of the TSC volleyball program, brings in 10 freshman spanning from Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Idaho, Australia, and Brazil.

The Trojans home-opener is slated for August 27th against Amarillo College at 7 p.m. inside Scott Gym.
