Trojans dominate home opener

(TRINIDAD, Colo.) –The Lady Trojan volleyball squad finally opened their home season on Friday evening with a convincing three-set victory over Adams State JV. The Trojans had played their previous eleven games on the road, where they were off to a 2-9 record.

With a large crowd on hand at Scott Gym, the Trojans struggled a bit coming out of the gate in the first set. An early timeout from second year head coach Melissa Hardman righted the ship and they went on to win the first set 25-18. The second set was a little easier as the Trojans rolled to a 25-13 win. The final set was all TSJC with a final score of 25-8. Sophomore Jolinalynn Achiu and freshman Nicole Carr had seven kills apiece, Noelle Gallegos finished with five aces and two blocks, and setters Pricilla Sanchez and Alicia Hall combined for 28 assists.

Over the twelve matches so far this season Madeline Hagedorn is leading the team with 113 kills, Hall has 217 assists, Teryn Mills has 147 digs and Detrianna Richardson has 48 total blocks.

"It was nice to finally be on our home court," commented Coach Hardman. "We came out a bit slow but got the dust knocked off and came out with a good win. We are a young team with a lot of talent. I look forward to seeing them continue to mature over this season."

The Trojans will return to the road on Wednesday when they travel to Alamosa for another match with Adams State JV. They will then go to Dodge City for a weekend tournament before returning home to play Frank Phillips College on Monday September 19 at 6 p.m.
