Trojans wrap up regular season

(TRINIDAD, Colo.) – The Lady Trojans Soccer squad had a unique season. Most of their games were played away from Los Niños Park, as two were moved because of weather and two were cancelled due to the opposing team not having enough players. So, Friday was only their third game on their home pitch. It was also their final home game of the season and it was sophomore day as they faced off with Western Wyoming Community College.

Following a nice ceremony honoring the graduating players and their families, the match kicked off to an exciting first half. The Trojans started much better than their previous outing, and both squads got good shots on goal only to see the defenses step up. Multiple saves from Trojan keeper Maizy Burbank and the defenders in front of her sent the teams into the half scoreless. In the second half, the Mustangs would squeeze two shots through early and then hold off a late Trojan onslaught for the 2-0 win.

The Trojans finished the regular season 5-8 and will now get ready to try to make a run in the playoffs. They will play a first-round playoff match with Sheridan CC in Sheridan, Wyoming. That contest will be on Friday at 4 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Region IX semifinals in Denver the next weekend.
