Trojans top Northeastern 4-0

(TRINIDAD, CO) – The lightning storm that passed through the Trinidad area on Friday forced the Lady Trojan soccer contest with Northeastern to be postponed until Sunday morning. The delay, and wet field conditions, did little to slow the Trojan attack as Trinidad ran past the Plainswomen 4-0.

A large crowd was on hand for the early morning soccer match, and they were treated to a first half goal-fest from the Trojans. TSJC scored all four of their goals in the opening 45 minutes to pick up their second Region IX win of the year. Freshman Claire Gay got the scoring started in the 14' when she split a pair of defenders on a corner kick from Rachel Fraser and headed the ball past the keeper. Thais Dos Santos would then double the lead two minutes later when she tracked down a lose ball in the box and pounded it into the back of the net. Forward Laeticia Rambeau continued her excellent play taking a through ball from Dos Santos and firing it into the right corner for the third Trojan goal of the game. Rambeau then wrapped up the scoring with her fifth goal of the season making the final score 4-0.

"I was very proud of the team's overall performance," commented Head Coach Peter Freeman. "We dominated the game on both sides of the ball. However, we have to now focus our attention and energy on our next games. This is our first major road trip and it will be a huge test to the mental strength of the team."

The Trojans are 2-0-1 with all three games played at home and counting toward the Region IX standings. They will head out on the road this coming weekend with a long trip to northern Wyoming where they will face Sheridan College on Friday and Northwest Wyoming on Saturday. The Trojans next home contest will be on Wednesday, September 14 against Otero.
