Freeman set to lead Women’s Soccer Program

Trinidad State Junior College is pleased to announce that it has hired Peter Freeman as the new head coach of the Women's Soccer team.

Freeman, a Colorado native, comes to TSJC from Adams State University where he served as the assistant Men's Soccer coach for the past couple of seasons. He also has experience coaching with the NCSC Bootleggers organization. Prior to his coaching days, Freeman played at Colorado Mountain College and Adams State University.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Adams State in Child Development and Human Performance/Physical Education.

"We are very excited to have Peter onboard to continue building the Women's Soccer program," said Athletic Director Mike Salbato. "Peter's knowledge and passion for the game were immediately evident from our initial interview. He comes from a great program over at Adams State, and is already making solid connections with our student-athletes. He understands the importance of the academic side of collegiate athletics so I think he will not only motivate our team to success on the field but in the classroom as well. Peter will be a great addition to our athletic staff."

This past spring it was decided that to ensure the continued success of the soccer programs at TSJC that it would be better to split the programs, which had been started and coached by Aaron Miller for their first four seasons. Miller will move his attention to coaching the men's squad while Freeman will coach the women.

"Aaron came into a difficult situation a couple of years ago," said Salbato. "He started two programs from scratch and raised them to national prominence in a very short time. I am excited to see what will happen with him putting all of his efforts into the men's team moving forward. Hawken Hannah came to TSJC as an assistant and has served as the interim head coach for the women through this transition. He did an amazing job for us this past year, and especially since assuming the role of head women's coach. He has recruited some tremendous players and will leave the program in great shape for Peter. We will miss him greatly and wish him the best in the future."

Freeman had this to say about his transition to the head coach's chair, "Hawken has done an incredible job working with me to get to know the returning players as well as the incoming players. I am excited to get the team on campus to begin preparing for the upcoming season. We have a strong group of returning players to lead the team and with the additional talent of our incoming players I expect them to have a competitive and successful season. I'd like to thank the administration and the hiring committee for this opportunity."

The Lady Trojans were 7-8-1 this past season, falling in the first round of the Region IX playoffs. The team will return to campus in early August to prepare for the 2016-2017 season.
