Women's Basketball Falls to No. 7 New Mexico

HOBBS, N.M. – The Trinidad State College women's basketball program opened it's 2024-25 campaign with a tough 100-53 loss to nationally-ranked New Mexico at the Caster Event Center on Friday evening.

The No. 7 New Mexico Thunderbirds came out firing on all cylinders after jumping out to a 27-10 lead after the first quarter. The T-birds carried the momentum into the second quarter, outscoring the Trojans 29-12 and taking a 56-22 lead at the half.

The Trojans were able to pick up some momentum in the fourth quarter as the team managed 20 points off 44.4% shooting as a team before coming up short, 100-53.

Lani Albert-Neha (Fr., Hamilton, New Zealand) led the way for the Trojans with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks while teammate Rachel Stewart (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 11 points and grabbed a team-high 6 rebounds.

The Trojans will take on No. 8 Odessa tomorrow at 12 pm at the Caster Event Center.
