Trojans nearing end of regular season

The women's basketball squad faced off against the top two teams in the south this weekend at Scott Gym. The Trojans faced a tenacious 23-3 Western Nebraska team that shot the lights out, falling 101-57, and then ran out of gas late against Eastern on Saturday falling 76-65.

The Trojans fought hard against the Cougars, but when the visiting team makes 11 3-pointers, shooting almost 60% from behind the line, there is not much you can do. Annette Warner had another solid performance with 13 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots. She got some offensive help from Shaylynn Choate who hit all three of her attempts from behind the line scoring a career high 13.

On Saturday the Trojans held the lead 36-30 at the break, but seemed to run out of energy late. Four Trojan starters, Warner, Mandie Perea, Daniela Ortega and Destinee Vigil each finished with 13 points. Warner is currently second in the nation with 102 blocks on the season.

The Trojans are still in the hunt for a home playoff game in a few weeks, but they will have to get a couple of wins on the road. The Trojans will host Fort Carson on Tuesday for sophomore night, before finishing on the road with Laramie, Otero and Lamar.
