Miner standout Choate signs with TSJC

(TRINIDAD, Colo.) – It is with much excitement that Trinidad State basketball coach Rich Holden announces the signing of Trinidad High School's Shaylynn Choate to the 2017-2018 squad. Choate has been the floor general of George Dasko's Miner squad for the past four seasons. During her senior season she averaged almost 14 points, three assists, four steals and eight rebounds a game. She was named All-State Honorable Mention, Tri-Peaks League All-Conference and was a member of the TSJC All-Tournament Team.

"Shay Choate is both a gym rat and a consummate team player," commented Holden. "If ever there was a young lady suited for our program it is Shay. We are thrilled that with all of the options available to her both athletically and academically that she chose to become a Lady Trojan. So far, our 2017-18 recruiting class is falling just the way we envisioned it, but the heavy lifting is still in front of us. The best thing about players like Shay is that she understands that the hard work is yet to come and you can count on her working hard to prepare for this level of basketball.

Choate will join fellow Lady Miner Brittnee Coberly on the floor for the Trojans this fall. Coberly helped TSJC to a 10-4 Region IX record this past season. With the strong core of returners, and a great recruiting class so far, TSJC will look to improve that mark in 2017-2018.
