Trojans hit the road to start 2022 season

The Lady Trojans, under the direction of 16-year head coach Steve Swazo, will travel to Henderson, Nevada this weekend to open the 2022 softball season at the annual College of Southern Nevada Coyote Invite.

TSC will open up Friday morning at 9am PST, against nationally ranked Salt Lake Community College, then play Snow College (out of Utah) at 11:30am PST and then close out the day playing Colorado Northwestern College (CNCC) at 7pm PST.

"Salt Lake is coming off a very impressive season last year finishing  with a 52-4 record and qualifying for the national tournament," head coach Steve Swazo said. "This will give us a good test how we match up against one of the best teams in the nation. Salt Lake was ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 for much of  last season in the NJCAA polls. Snow College is always a good team and will be our first meeting with Colorado Northwestern in quite some time."

Friday's games will be played at the Stephanie Lynn Craig Park and  Saturday's games will be played at the CSN softball field located right on the Henderson Campus

"Saturday we get to play the host school at 9am PST then Central Arizona, at 11:30am PST, two very good teams." Swazo said. "These teams have been able to practice in some good weather so we definitely will be seeing some great competition right off the bat. The key for us this first weekend is to play (5) games and get everyone some experience that will help us once we start our regular season first week of March."

The Lady Trojans are the defending Region 9 Champions and have their sights to bring another title to Trojan land.

"It's always a goal the team has at the beginning of the year to win another championship," coach Swazo said. "I wish it was that easy but this team has worked hard in the fall and we have some sophomores that played a lot last year that were a part of that championship team and I am expecting them to help our freshmen make the transition to college softball."

The Trojans will have eight returning sophomores along with eleven new freshman and a transfer for the 2022 season. They will open their season at home with doubleheaders against Garden City on February 5 at 12-2pm and against Frank Phillips College on February 6 at 12-2pm. All games will be played at Southside Park.

The games in Nevada will be streamed live on the Facebook page Trinidad State College Softball.
