Lady Trojans take Clarendon series

CLARENDON, Texas –   The Trojan Softball team had previous weekend off because of poor weather, so after the extended break it was good to return to the field in Clarendon, Texas this past weekend for a series with Clarendon College. TSJC won the series three games to one, improving their season record to 3-5.

TSJC dropped the first game 7-2, but rebounded behind freshman pitcher Bailey Griego, who went the distance in game two, giving up five runs and recording 12 strikeouts for her first collegiate victory. Haley Valdez had the hot bat going 4-for-5 and Giana Paape hit her second home run of the season as the Trojans defeated the bulldogs 9-5.

Griego and Marley Moralez each threw complete games on Sunday to give TSJC the series win. Valdez finished the weekend 7-for-12 at the plate and Sydney Stewart, Paape and Jessica Arellano each had home runs over the weekend.

The Trojans planned trip to Garden City this week has been postponed until March 8 due to weather. The Lady Trojans home opener is scheduled for February 22 against Luna Community College however it could be moved to Raton, New Mexico if the field is not ready at Southside Park.
