Men's and Women's Cross Country Take Home Region 9 Titles; Faroux Claims Men's Individual Title

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Trinidad State College men's and women's cross country programs took home the first two Region 9 titles of the year after first-place performances at the 2024 Region 9 Cross Country Championships at Cole Park in Alamosa.

The Trojans took the first three spots in the men's 8,000-meter race as Arthur Faroux (Fr., Lavaur, France) claimed the region individual title with a time of 25:44.93. Tiago Sabino (So., Oeiras,  Portugal) finished in second with a time of 27:46.82 while teammate Anthony Pena (Fr., Weston, Colo.) came in third at 28:07.74.

Andrew Romancito (Fr., Zuni, N.M.) finished fourth for the Trojans and 10th overall with a time of 30:27.77 while Luke Maxey (Fr., Austin, Colo.) rounded out the scoring five at 30:45.56 and 11th place overall.

Camden Fox (Fr., Silverthorne, Colo.) crossed in 34:42.12 to finish in 13th place.

The Trojans claimed the region team title with 23 points while Southeastern finished 2nd with 32 points.

On the women's side, Shania Chavez (So., Zuni, N.M.) finished in 2nd place overall in the 5,000-meter race after crossing the finish line in 21:38.52 as freshman Kaylee Tucker (Fr., Rocky Ford, Colo.) came in 4th place with a time of 23:57.16.

Jadyn Jones (Fr., Farmington, N.M.), who is also a member od the TSC Softball team, came in 5th place overall at 24:59.53 as McKenna Guymon (So., La Jara, Colo.) finished 6th at 25:54.00. Nylah Rigdon (So., Fountain, Colo.) rounded out the Trojans squad in 7th place overall at 30:00.56.

The Trojans were the only team with 5 student-athletes to compete for the team title and finished with 15 points.

Both teams will look ahead to the 2024 NJCAA National Championships which will take place at the Pole Green Park in Richmond, Va. On November 9th, 2024. The teams will also compete in the 2024 NJCAA Half Marathon Championships on November 12th, 2024 at Dorey Park in Richmond. The men's squad is looking to defend it's title as the National Champions.
