Trojans split region games

(TRINIDAD, Colo.) – The Trojan soccer team faced off with Region IX opponents Northeastern Junior College and Western Nebraska this past weekend at Central Park. The Trojans dropped an intense game on Saturday to the Plainsmen, but bounced back to defeat the region leading Cougars on Sunday.

On Saturday the Trojans stuck first when Abraham Soto fired a pass from Thiago Navarro into the net at the 12' minute mark. The Trojans would score again on an Ato Williams penalty kick in the 23' minute. Things reversed quickly however when the Trojans went down a man in the 32' minute on a straight red card to Hakim Williams. NJC would score three rapid goals to end the half in the lead 3-2. The Trojans pushed forward and got many good looks, but ended up giving up another goal and the 4-2 final tally.

Western Nebraska came into Sunday's game on top of the Region IX south standings, but the Trojans managed to hold them scoreless for the complete 90' minutes. TSJC got a pair of second half goals off the head of Biska Biyombo to claim the 2-0 win. Victor Lujan and Ato Williams had the assists and Shamar Jemison finished with seven saves in the clean sheet.

The Trojans have two remaining sub-region games, both at home, to decide first place and playoff seating moving forward. They host Central CC on Friday, October 6 at 3 p.m. and Otero on Wednesday, October 11 at 3 p.m. Both games are at Los Niños Park.
