Trojans split weekend games

Trojans split weekend games

Trinidad State opened their home soccer season this past weekend at Central Park with a pair of Region IX games against Sheridan and Northwest. Friday night the Trojans hosted the Generals. Sheridan kept things bottled up on the defensive end throughout the first half despite a furious TSJC attack. Early in the second half Lukas Smith won a ball at midfield and moved it over to Saad Hissien on the left side. Hissien floated a ball into the box where Julian Padilla out leapt the defenders to hit a looping header into the top right corner of the net. The Trojans would add a goal to secure the win in the 75' minute when Filip Cvetinovic scored to make it 2-0. Hector Haros had six saves to secure the shutout in goal.

On Saturday the Trojans faced the Trappers from Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. The Trappers would get the first goal of the game on a deep strike from Eddie Asamoah. The score would remain 1-0 into the half. After the break the Trojans continued the attacking pressure, tying the game on a header from Padilla off an assist from Felipe Machado.  The game was still knotted up at the final whistle of regulation and remained that way until the midpoint of the second overtime when Northwest's Danny Mort looped a long strike past the Trojan defense and into the net for the 2-1 win.

The Trojans face #5 ranked Otero on Wednesday in La Junta in a crucial Region contest.  They will then head out this weekend for a long road trip that will take them into Utah and Western Wyoming.
