Trojans outlast Lopes

(TRINIDAD, Colo.) – For the second time this season the Trojans topped one of the leading teams in the region when they beat Lamar Community College at home on Saturday night. In the final home regular season game of the year the Trojans dominated early and then held off a late run to pick up the 76-67 victory. The Trojans defeated the Lopes earlier this season in Lamar 93-90 in overtime, at the time Lamar was ranked in the top-20 nationally.

Saturday night was all TSJC early. They had the hot hand from the outside and were stifling Lamar with smothering defense. The Trojans led 39-25 at the break. Lamar chipped away early in the second half, cutting it to a three point margin with less than five minutes to play. A timeout from Coach Mike Folda righted the ship and the Trojans pulled away to claim the region win. Three sophomores reached double figures for the Trojans with Karamoko Cisse and Malik Hart each putting in 14 and Brandon Newman scoring 11. Hart also led in assists with five and a host of Trojans pulled six rebounds down apiece.

TSJC (15-10, 8-6) will wrap up the regular season this weekend with a pair of region games in Nebraska against North Platte Community College on Friday and McCook Community College on Saturday. With a pair of wins and some help the Trojans are still in the hunt to host a first-round playoff game next weekend.
