Trojan Baseball got the year off to a good start with a series win on the road against a very good NMMI team last weekend. The pitching for both squads was extremely strong and Trinidad managed to squeak out wins of 3-1 in the opener and 4-2 in the final game, falling in extra innings, 2-1 in the middle game of the series. Region 9 Pitcher-of-the-Week

The opening weekend Region 9 Pitcher of the Week is Trinidad State right hander Rolando DeLaCruz.  The Abilene Christian University signee was dominant in his 2022 debut against New Mexico Military Institute, which helped the Trojans capture a series win.  His stat line was five innings pitched, zero runs, one hit, and striking out seven batters. 

Region 9 Player-of-the-Week

The opening weekend Region 9 Player of the Week is Trinidad State right-fielder Cesar Saavedra.  The uncommitted sophomore from Panama City, Panama opened 2022 with a hot start at the plate the proved key to Trindad's opening series win versus New Mexico Military Institute.  He hit .545 (6-11) with three runs scored, and 2 RBI.
