Baseball wins three in Kansas

The Trojan Baseball team was in Liberal, Kansas for a pair of doubleheaders with Seward County Community College on Sunday and Monday. The Trojans got off to a great start to the four-game set sweeping the first two games before splitting games the second day.

Game one saw the Trojans take an early lead and never look back. Alex Bedard had a great game going 3-for-3 with four runs scored and Conrado Diaz finished with three RBI's. The Trojans hit six doubles in the game. Dave Gauthier controlled the Saints from the mound going all seven innings, allowing only two runs while striking out eight. Game two was similar with the Trojans taking an early lead and expanding it throughout the contest. They staved off a late Saint comeback for the 9-4 win. Xavier Langlois went 3-for-3 with three runs scored to lead the offense and pitchers Anthony Durbano and Niko Guzman held Seward in check striking out five.

Game three was an oddity. The Trojans led early only to see the Saint bats come to life. The Trojans managed four runs off of six hits but it was not near enough as they fell 15-4. The final game of the series fell back into a familiar pattern with the Trojan bats controlling the tempo. Ethan Castro had a big game from the DH spot accounting for three RBI's. Devin Castro was powerful on the hill, striking out nine in six innings of work as the Trojans rolled to a 10-0 win.

TSJC is now 12-4 on the season. They will begin Region IX play on Saturday when they take on McCook. The Indians are 2-3 on the season. First pitch is set for noon at Central Park.
