Trojans sweep Rough Riders

(TRINIDAD, Colo.) – It was a beautiful day for baseball at Central Park on Tuesday afternoon when the Trojans took on Luna Community College. TSJC didn't disappoint the gathered fans dropping the Rough Riders 11-0 and 15-8 in the doubleheader.

The Trojans wasted little time taking the lead in game one. Conrado Diaz smacked his first college home run over the wall in center field in the first inning to put TSJC up 1-0. An RBI by Kyle DeWees scored Josiah Scott in the second inning to double the lead. TSJC would then plate four in the third and five in the fourth to boost the lead to 11-0. Luna threatened in the top of the fifth but the Trojans would cut down a runner trying to steal third to get out of trouble and end it after five. Jose Torres picked up his second win of the season on the hill.

In the second game the Rough Riders jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first. Following a series of walks the Trojans got one run back, and then, with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom half of the inning freshman David Gauthier would put the Trojans back on top with one swing of the bat. The grand slam made the score 5-4. The teams traded runs until a seven-run fifth inning put the game out of reach for TSJC. They held on for the 15-8 victory. Alex Valdez picked up the win in relief.

TSJC (8-6) will travel to Las Vegas, New Mexico next week for a doubleheader rematch with Luna CC on Tuesday. They will then return home on March 4 to start conference play against McCook Community College. First pitch that Saturday will be at noon at Central Park.
