Masterson takes position with USADA

After eight years of unparalleled success leading the cross country, half marathon, and track and field programs at Trinidad State College, Head Coach Lauren Masterson has announced her departure to accept a position with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

Masterson's tenure has been marked by extraordinary achievements and unwavering dedication to the growth and success of student-athletes.

Under Masterson's leadership, the Trojans won twelve Region 9 Cross Country Titles, amassed 119 All-Americans, had six Trojan athletes win 13 individual National Titles, and broke two NJCAA records. The highlight of Masterson's time has been not one, but two National Championships the Trojan runners have brought back home. The first was a Championship in 2020 by the women's Half Marathon team, the second was this past fall when the Trojans topped the podium at the 2024 Men's Cross Country National Championship. She was name National Cross Country Coach of the Year following their amazing performance.

Reflecting on her time at Trinidad State, Masterson expressed her gratitude to the athletes and the college community, stating, "I cannot ever describe in words how much I have appreciated the young people and their families who have trusted me as their coach. It has been an honor for me to work with you all. Each person played a part in Trinidad State Cross Country and Track and Field becoming what it is today."

A native of Alamosa, Colorado, Masterson's journey to coaching success began with her own illustrious career as a four-time NCAA National Champion at Adams State University. As a prep she won State Championships as a member of the Alamosa High School cross country and track teams. Her deep-rooted connection to the sport, coupled with her coaching expertise, has propelled the Trojans to unprecedented heights.

Athletic Director Mike Salbato expressed gratitude for Masterson's contributions, saying, "Lauren is an amazing coach and an even better person. Her dedication to her athletes and determination to grow our running programs was unmatched. She overachieved in every single way, winning titles and advancing our athletes to the highest levels. I am so grateful for the work she has done for our program; she has been a pleasure to work with and we will miss her greatly".
