TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Trojan women's soccer team got a pair of big wins this weekend at Central Park over Region IX rivals Northwest College and Central Wyoming College. TSJC outscored their opponents a combined 13-2 while moving their overall region record to 3-3 and climbing into the playoff race.

On Friday afternoon the Trojans got off to an early lead on a goal from Reina Sotelo off an assist from Laura Torres. Destiny Button would double the lead minutes later with a header off a corner kick from Halie Velarde. Marlene Mendez wrapped up the first half scoring with an unassisted goal in the 42' minute. In the second half Torres would score off a cross from Jade Glasser. The Trappers got a goal back on a long shot from Sapirah Broussard but all hopes of a comeback were dashed when the Trojans responded instantly with a goal from Wendy De Loera. De Loera would then wrap up the scoring in the final minute with her second goal off of Glasser's second assist of the contest. Trinidad claimed the 6-1 win. TSJC outshot Northwest eleven to six for shots on goal and Cambri Curtis collected five saves.

Saturday afternoon saw the Trojans taking on the Rustlers from Central Wyoming College. Torres started the scoring quickly with a shot over the keeper in the sixth minute. De Loera would then add a hat-trick with three goals within seven minutes of each other. The Trojans led 4-0 at the half. Madison Kaminky got the scoring going again in the second half with a header off of a great cross from Glasser. Mendez then made it 6-0 with a 30-yard rocket off the bottom of the crossbar. CWC would get one goal back and then Velarde would finish the scoring with a beauty of a free kick in the 89' minute. The final score was 7-1.

The Trojans are now 3-3 in region play and 4-5 overall. With the top eight teams moving into the playoff bracket this Friday's game with Central Community College is going to be key. A win would allow the Trojans to control their own destiny in the hunt for one of those spots. Kickoff with CCC is set for 1pm on Friday at Central Park.
