TRINIDAD, Colo. – Trinidad State got a great win at Central Park on Friday afternoon, defeating the previously undefeated Cougars from Western Nebraska. On Saturday the Trojans were unable to find the net early as they fell to the Plainswomen from NJC.

On Friday it was a battle of two top defenses with strong goalkeepers. The teams traded shots and for the first 80 minutes it remained scoreless. Finally, Marlene Mendez received the ball from Ava Bishop at the top of the box on a corner kick. Mendez drove it past the defense and into the net for the only goal of the game. Cambri Curtis had a giant game in goal, picking up 12 saves in the shutout win over the 19th ranked team in the nation.

The next afternoon an exhausted Trojan team took on the Plainswomen from Northeastern Junior College. NJC's Jordan Stoner got onto the scoresheet first in the 30th minute sliding one into the Trojan net. A few minutes later the Plainswomen would double their lead on a penalty kick by Yadira Ramos. Trinidad had some great looks at goal but were unable to find the net until the 66th minute when Wendy De Loera would score on a penalty. Northeastern held on late for the 2-1 win.

The Trojans are now 1-1 in Region IX play and 2-3 overall. They will travel to northern Wyoming this weekend to face Sheridan College and Gillette College. TSJC will next be home on September 27 to face Northwest College.
