Trojans drop #20 WWCC

Trojans drop #20 WWCC

Vs. #20 Western Wyoming

After a long break, the Trojans were itching to get back on the court, and excited to take on a top 25 team in the country, Western Wyoming.  The Mustangs were older and had 3 returning players from their championship team.  Trinidad State came out with a strong start, firing away 3's, sharing the ball well, and being selfless.  Their struggles came on defense because Western Wyoming was stronger and taller.  The Mustangs offense did not look pretty, but they were able to convert on second chance opportunities.  The game itself was a little chippy, so the refs gave out a double technical and several fouls.  The Trojans answered the Mustang's physicality by locking in on defense and competing for rebounds.  Towards the end of the half, managing lineups for both teams became a challenge because multiple players were in foul trouble.  Trinidad State and their coaching staff successfully managed the rotation to maintain a double-digit lead going into the half.

To start the second half, it was more of the same. The Trojans looked to be moving like a well-oiled machine.  While they made it look easy, everything they were doing was a challenge, whether it was getting to the hoop or grabbing a rebound.  The refs continued to call the game close and gave out some more technical fouls.  For the Trinidad State, Dejour Reaves and Blake Cesar were hot from the 3-point line.  While Dylan West did the dirty work grabbing offensive rebounds.  Later on, Western Wyoming's 3 best players fouled out.  From that point on, the Trojans were on cruise control.  On the defensive end, Trinidad State pressed and threw in some zone defense, which allowed them to get easy buckets on the other end. The Mustang's offense was no match for Trinidad's defense.  Western Wyoming was struggling to find the hoop. The Trojans, energy, effort, physicality, and selflessness allowed them to surpass a top 25 team.

Looking Forward:

The Trojans will have an extended winter break and will be back in action January 7th

To All:

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
