Trojan Shield Weekly Update: March 4, 2019

Greetings from Trojan Country!

We are past mid-terms and headed quickly to spring break. The semester is flying by. Something else that is approaching very quickly is the annual TSJC Educational Foundation’s Fun and Friendrasier event. This year the proceeds from the event will benefit the Trojan Athletic Department. The Fun and Friendraiser will be held on April 6 at the Brix Sports Bar and Grill. The featured guest speaker is Altitude TV’s Todd Romero. For more information about the event or to get tickets you can call Toni DeAngelis at (719) 846-5520 or email her at toni.deangelis@trinidadstate.edu.

I would like to give a special shout-out to former Trojan track and field star Elias Gedyon. Elias won the 3000m at the NCAA Division II Nationals for Adams State University this past weekend. Great job Eli!

Despite their heavy schedules this time of year, our coaches and athletes have stayed busy helping in the community. The teams have been spending time working with many different types of youth activities. This week the baseball team hosted a camp/open workout for athletes from around the area. Great job guys. #TrojanProud

Trojan Sophomores

The season came to an end on Thursday for the Trojan basketball team as they fell to #6 Casper College at the Region IX Tournament in Sheridan, Wyoming. A bad shooting night put the Trojans into a big hole early and they were unable to recover, falling to the eventual region champions 84-61. Casper then defeated Western Nebraska and Sheridan on their way to claiming the crown and punching their ticket to the National Tournament.

In the playoff contest the Trojans shot 12% from the 3-point line and only 34% overall. The Thunderhawks on the other hand hit 43% of their 3-point attempts and almost shot 50% from the field in the game. Freshman David Muenkat led the Trojans with 14 points in the contest.

The Trojans finished the year 20-10. They will lose four sophomores to graduation including Issac Essein, Ian Kelly, Devin Smith and Prince Wilson. That group helped the team to a combined 41-20 record over the past two seasons. They will be missed, but TSJC will return a solid freshman class, so look for continued success from Trojan Basketball.

Baseball faces off with Cougars

Durbano pitch

The Trojan baseball team hosted Western Nebraska this weekend at Central Park. The Trojans took one of the three games from the Cougars to move their overall record to 11-11 on the season and 7-2 in Empire Conference play.

The Trojans led most of game one but an eighth inning rally from the visitors pulled it away late. TSJC fell 6-5. In game two the Trojans again took the lead into the middle innings only to see it get away. The final game of the series was a different story as the Trojans scored eight in the first inning and then cruised to an 11-3 win behind another complete game from Bohdi Bolen. Reid Baty was one of the big bats on the day for the Trojans as he hit three home runs.

TSJC will host ASU JV early in the week if the weather allows, and then will welcome CSU Fort Collins to town this coming weekend. Watch our social media to check on any weather changes.
