Trojan Shield Weekly Update: January 14, 2019

Greetings from Trojan Country!

dunk

Classes begin this week and the athletes have returned to campus for another semester. The softball and baseball teams, although very anxious to get onto the field to prepare for the upcoming season, will have to wait until all of the snow melts. They both have just a couple of weeks to prepare for their opening games as they each hope to defend their respective region titles. The basketball teams will keep us busy this coming week. The Lady Trojans have three home contests and the men have a pair of home games. Adding to this, we will welcome Trinidad High School to campus on Friday afternoon as they host Ellicott. It looks to be a great week of basketball so I encourage everyone to get out and support the Trinidad teams here in Scott Gym.

Trojans defeat Maverick JV 124-56

basketball steal

Six Trojans reached double-digits and everyone on the roster scored as they got back on track heading into region play this coming weekend. TSJC had no problem with the Northwest Kansas Technical College junior varsity on Friday at Scott Gym, opening up a 72-34 advantage at halftime and then cruising to a 124-56 win.

Freshmen David Muenkat and Keontae White each had a double-double in the game, Muenkat scored 21 and pulled down ten rebounds, White put in 20 and added 12 assists.

The 13-3 Trojans will start Region IX play at home this coming Friday and Saturday. They host 10-1 North Platte on Friday at 7pm and the following afternoon they host 7-7 McCook.

Lady Trojans make huge comeback

Choate shot

A hot shooting Clarendon College stormed into Scott Gym on Sunday afternoon, dropping 11 first half 3-pointers, but it wasn’t enough to take down the feisty Trojans. TSJC rallied from a 53-35 halftime deficit to defeat the Bulldogs 75-69. Tenacious defense in the second half held the opponents from Texas to just 16 points as TSJC rallied to take the lead midway through the final quarter and hang on for the win.

TSJC got big games from all nine Trojan players in uniform. They had four reach double figures led by 20 from Shaylynn Choate, who had an amazing 8-10 shooting performance, including four 3-pointers of her own. Both starting posts, Hannah Gilmore and Julia Trujillo, had a double-double in points and rebounds. They combined for 30 points and 27 boards.

The Trojans are 9-6 on the season and will host three games this week. They face 6-8 Frank Phillips at 5pm on Wednesday, 2-12 North Platte on Friday at 5pm and 11-5 McCook on Saturday afternoon. The McCook contest marks the start of conference play for the Trojans.
